Biography of Nick Vujicic

Nick Vujicic, famous for his inspirational speeches, was born without limbs in his body. On the morning of my birth, Dad was beside her and could see my shoulder had no arm. He nearly fainted and vomited, and the nurse had to take him out of the room. I had phocemelia, no limbs, and there was no medical explanation. It wasn’t genetic and it wasn't thalidomide. They said I would be a vegetable.

My mum said, “Take him away — I don’t want to see him.” 

But my dad comforted her and said, “He’s beautiful.” They took me home, but it took three to four months for my mother to come to terms with it.

However, instead of letting his disability deter his everyday life, he took it as a challenge, using it to change millions of lives with the same faith that kept him going. As a child of ten, he always wondered why he was different from others, and decided to drown himself since he saw no purpose to his living. However, he stopped himself in time, thinking of his loving parents and how much it would hurt them to see him dead. 

Nick prayed very hard that God would give him arms and legs, and initially told God that, if his prayer remained unanswered, Nick would not praise him indefinitely. However, a key turning point in his faith came when his mother showed him a newspaper article about a man dealing with a severe disability. Vujicic realized he wasn't unique in his struggles and began to embrace his lack of limbs. After this, Nick realized his accomplishments could inspire others and become grateful for his life.Nick gradually figured out how to live a full life without limbs, adapting many of the daily skills limbed people accomplish without thinking. Nick writes with two toes on his left foot and a special grip that slid onto his big toe. He knows how to use a computer and can type up to 45 words per minute using the "heel and toe" method. He has also learned to throw tennis balls, play drum pedals, get a glass of water, comb his hair, brush his teeth, answer the phone and shave, in addition to participating in golf, swimming, and even sky-diving

From then on, there was no looking back for this young man, who now has founded his own organization, called ‘Life Without Limbs’. He has released motivational films, like 'Life's Greater Purpose' and 'Biography of a Determined Man of Faith'. He has also written a book titled 'Life Without Limits: Inspiration for a Ridiculously Good Life'. This speaker has even acted in a short film, ‘The Butterfly Circus’, earning the film three awards, and bagging one himself, for his brilliant portrayal of a man very much like himself, who is given a second chance to love himself. He is a devout Christian, believing that God loves everyone equally, and has taken it upon himself to spread the message to everyone around the world

The Lake of Color

Narrative Text:

Long long ago, there was a kingdom in West Java. The kingdom was ruled by a king named His Majesty Prabu. Prabu was a kind and wise king. But it was a pity that Prabu and his queen hadn't got any children. The queen often cried. That was why Prabu went to the jungle. There he prayed to God every day, begging for a child.
A few months later, the queen got pregnant. Nine months later, a princess was born. Prabu and Queen loved their beautiful daughter so much. They gave whatever she wanted. It made Princess turn into a very spoiled girl.
One day, the princess celebrated her 17 th birthday party. Many people gathered in the palace. Then, Prabu took out a necklace which was made from gold and jewel. "My beloved daughter, today I give you this necklace. Please, wear this necklace," said Prabu. "I don't want to wear it! It's ugly!" shouted the princess. Then she threw the necklace. The beautiful necklace was broken. The gold and jewels were spread out on the floor. Everybody couldn't say anything. They never thought that their beloved princess would do that cruel thing. In their silence, people heard thequeen crying. Every woman felt sad and began crying, too. Then, everybody was crying.
Suddenly, from the underground, a spring emerged. It made a pool of water. Soon, the place became a big lake. The lake finally sank the kingdom. Nowadays, people called the lake " Telaga Warna". It means "Lake of Color". On a bright day, the lake is full of color. These colors come from shadows of forest, plants, flowers, and sky around the lake. But some people said that the colors are from the princess's necklace, which spreads at the bottom of the lake.

Dialogue:

Long time ago there was a kingdom in West Java. The kingdom was ruled by king. People called their king His Majesty Prabu. Prabu was kind and wise king. No wonder if that country was prosperous. There’s no hunger in this kingdom.
It was very happy condition. But it was pity that prabu and his queen hadn’t got any children. It made the royal couple was very sad. Some old man who was respected by Prabu suggested the king to adopt a child. But Prabu and the Queen didn’t agree.

Old man : “Prabu, I suggest you adopt a child. Because you haven’t child to change you rule the king when you have old.”
King : “I don’t agree with your suggest!”
Old man : “Why you don’t agree Prabu? All people in this kingdom just want you have a child who will replace you when you get older.”
King : “Because for us, our own daughter or son is better than adopted children. Don't you think like that, my wife?”
Queen : “Yes, I think so. Our own daughter or son is better than adopted children.”

The Queen was very sad. She often cried. That was why Prabu decided to go. He went to the jungle. There he prayed to God. Everyday he begged for a child.

King : “Ohh my God. Please, give me and my wife a child. I will promise to you, if you give me a child I will love them.”

His dream comes true. A few months later, the queen got pregnant. All people in the kingdom felt happy. They sent many presents to the palace to express their happiness.

People in the Kingdom : “I bring this presents to you Your Majesty. This is the express from me. I feel happy if Queen get pregnant.”
King : “Thanks a lot.”

Nine months later a princess was born. People sent their presents again as a gift to a little princess. This baby grew as a beautiful teenager then.

People in the Kingdom: “Ohh.. How beautiful you are.”
Queen : “Thank you .”
People in the Kingdom : “Here, I bring it for your beautiful baby.”
King : “Thank you very much. I accept your presents.”

Prabu and Queen love their daughter so much. They gave everything she wanted. It made Princess a very spoiled girl. Even though the princess behaved badly, her parents loved her, so did the people in that kingdom.
Day by day, the princess grew more beautiful. No girls couldn’t compare with her. In a few days, Princess would be 17 years old. So, people of that palace. They bought many presents for her. Their presents gift were very beautiful. Prabu collected the presents. There really many presents. Then Prabu stored them in building. Sometimes he could take them to give to his people.

People in the Kingdom: “Your majesty Prabu, this is I bring a present to you beautiful daughter. I’m sorry I just can give your daughter like this. Please accept my present.”
King : “I will accept your present. Thank you for this present.”
Prabu only took some gold and jewels. Then he brought them to the gold smith.
King : “Please make a beautiful necklace for my daughter.”
Goldsmith : “My pleasure, Your Majesty.”
The goldsmith worked with all his heart and his ability. He wanted to create the most beautiful necklace in the word because he loved the princess.
Goldsmith : “This is the beautiful necklace. I make it with my heart and my ability. I hope you happy with this necklace.”
King : “Ohh… how beautiful this necklace.”

The birthday came. People gathered in the palace field. When Prabu and Queen appeared, people welcomed them happily. Prabu and his wife waved to their beloved people.
Cheers were louder and louder when the princess appeared with her fabulous pretty face. Everybody admired her beauty. Prabu got up from his chair. A man gave him a small and glamorous pillow. A wonder full necklace was on it. Prabu took that necklace.

King : “My beloved daughter, today I give this necklace to you. This necklace is gift from all people in this country. They love you so much. They presented it for you to express their happiness, because you have growing to a women. Please wear this necklace.”
Princess accepted the necklace. She looked at the necklace in a glance.
Princess : “I don’t want to accept it! It’s ugly!”

Then she threw the necklace. The beautiful necklace was broken. The gold and jewels were spread out on the floor.
Everybody couldn’t say anything. They never thought that their beloved princess would did that cruel thing. Nobody spoke. In their silence people heard the queen crying. Than everybody was crying.
Then there was a miracle. Earth was crying. Suddenly, from the underground, a storm emerged. It made a pool of water. The place was getting full. Soon place became a big lake. The lake sank all of the kingdom.
Nowadays, the water on that lake is not as full as before. There is only a small lake now. People called the lake “Talaga Warna”. It is mean “Lake of Color”. It’s located in the peak, West Java. On a bright day, the lake is full of color. So beautiful and amazing. These colors come from shadows of forest, plants, flowers, and sky around the lake. But some people said that the color are from the princess’s necklace, which spreads at the bottom of the lake.
